Six artists examine the housing crisis in the winning exhibition of the inaugural Young Curators programme
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 13 de julio de 2026. L Contemporary is pleased to present Habitar la demora, an exhibition curated by Adrián Castellano de la Rosa and Marina Peralta Pérez, selected as the winning proposal of the inaugural edition of Young Curators, the gallery's programme supporting emerging curators. On view from 18 June to 8 August 2026, the exhibition brings together works by Ainara Cogollos, Ona Flores, Héctor González, Rubén Guedes, Andrea Moreno and Marina Sunyer.
At a time when access to housing has become one of the defining social challenges of our generation, Habitar la demoraconsiders what it means to inhabit the present. Housing is no longer understood as a place of permanence and stability but as a condition shaped by uncertainty, precarity and displacement. Tourism, real estate speculation and the increasing inaccessibility of housing profoundly affect not only where people live but also how collective identities are formed, particularly among younger generations.
Bringing together diverse artistic practices, the exhibition explores questions of territory, belonging, memory, forced mobility and the growing difficulty of securing a home. Rather than illustrating a social issue, the works create a shared space for reflection on the structural conditions that increasingly define contemporary life.
Each of the six participating artists approaches these questions from a distinct perspective. In La tierra que guardo(2025), Héctor González transforms Canarian soil into a symbolic gesture that reflects on land ownership, memory and the right to remain. Ainara Cogollos' ya no habrá primavera (2026) reconfigures familiar domestic objects to expose the tension between intimate space and the economic and political forces that shape it. Rubén Guedes' Gracias por su visita(2025) employs repetition to examine tourism as one of the principal drivers of housing speculation and gentrification.
Marina Sunyer's Formas de malestar (2025) uses materials stretched to their physical limits as a metaphor for the systemic pressures surrounding labour, independence and access to housing. Andrea Moreno's Solar I (2026) revisits the notion of "a room of one's own," presenting the architectural sketch as both aspiration and impossibility. Finally, Ona Flores' La Magua (2026) brings together images of the Canarian landscape imbued with nostalgia and displacement, reflecting the experience of those compelled to leave home in search of opportunity.
Taken together, Habitar la demora positions art as a space through which to examine one of the most pressing issues of contemporary society. The exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the meaning of dwelling today while opening a broader conversation about housing, belonging and the social conditions that shape everyday life.
A programme of public events will accompany the exhibition, including a workshop "Curation and the Contemporary Gallery," led by Elle Przybyla, Director of L Contemporary (Saturday, 1 August, at 12:00 pm).
About Young Curators
Habitar la demora is the winning exhibition of the inaugural edition of Young Curators, L Contemporary's programme supporting emerging curators, cultural producers and researchers.
The programme enables participants to develop an exhibition within the gallery's hybrid studio-gallery space while benefiting from curatorial mentorship, production support and access to L Contemporary's network of artists, scholars and cultural professionals. Participants also gain first-hand experience of the commercial gallery environment, including exhibition development, working with collectors and the practical realities of exhibiting and selling contemporary art. Young Curators has been partially funded by the Cabildo de Tenerife.
About the Curators
Adrián Castellano de la Rosa (b. 2002) and Marina Peralta Pérez (b. 1999) hold degrees in Art History from the University of La Laguna and the Complutense University of Madrid, respectively. Both graduated with the Extraordinary End of Degree Award.
